And that’s a wrap!
The team at StartOut has been busy this year and building new technology and getting out and about in regional and rural Australia. A big thanks to our generous volunteers, as well as Australian Unity and Qantas for helping us with our outreach and awareness programs this year. We can’t wait to keep building our programs and getting out to those who need someone in their corner.
We have upgraded our mentoring app
Our amazing tech volunteers have been hard at work refreshing the SO/Talk web-app and moving it onto an entirely new infrastructure, which is now live! This takes a lot of work, so please join us in thanking the team.
At StartOut we build our own technology, so it’s very exciting to see an upgrade happen as it gives us the freedom to add more and more clever things into our digital mentoring offering over time. Watch this space next year for some new feature announcements.
We have new volunteers
We have recently brought on a group of new volunteers who are amazing humans in their own right, and together will be a force of nature, helping StartOut manage our volunteer onboarding, mentor matching, and corporate outreach programs. We’re excited to have Finn, Gabby, and Krista helping out into the new year.
We are seeking an experienced mentoring or group trainer to help with training sessions for our mentors early next year. If you have experience and love delivering training programs we’d love to hear from you.
StartOut is seeking two new board members with passion, experience, and connections to join the governance board as non executive directors next year and help guide us into the next phase of being there for DSG people around the country. Ideally the person will have completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course, or have other not for profit board experience.

Broken Heel 2019 – https://www.bhfestival.com/
Broken Heel in Broken Hill was a great success again this year thanks to our corporate partners Australian Unity and Qantas, we had a stand at the local community markets and met many locals and people who had travelled to Broken Hill, and were wrapped to see StartOut existing in regional and rural Australia.
Wear It Purple 2019 – https://www.wearitpurple.org/
Our SO/Awesome volunteer Aaron Best represented StartOut at two different corporate events on Wear It Purple day this year, one of which was live streamed around the country to hundreds of employees. Thanks Aaron, we had great feedback on the day.
Perth Pride 2019 – https://www.pridewa.com.au/
StartOut crossed to the West Coast last month to participate in Perth Fair Day for the first time, with stall at the entrance to the event. It was a great day and we met lots of local people who liked what we’re doing and was the start of hopefully building some long term relationships in WA.
Much love and see you in the new year, from the StartOut team
