Mentor Training Goes Virtual
StartOut prides itself on our mentor training, which is a deep dive for our new role models into how to be a good mentor. This includes the principles, boundaries, and benefits of mentoring. We also provide insights into the unique challenges of the DSG community and the unique method of delivery – online with a potentially anonymous mentee.
In a normal world StartOut delivers it’s training in-person for a full day with a group of 5-10 people who are volunteering to be StartOut role models. During COVID we’ve had to cancel all of our in–person training and re-purpose our training online.
We’re excited this week as we’ve moved all our training online into virtual zoom classrooms and developed activities that work online. A benefit of this is now we are able to train people who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to make it in person and it just makes sense to do online training for our online mentoring.
We couldn’t do this without the help of our great volunteers at StartOut who come from a training and youth work background to help re-develop the content and re-purpose our presentation materials.
